Hello all,
I have been traveling recently and came upon some cliffs, a new resource that I anticipate will be in greater demand as this year progresses. I would like to propose an outpost/settlement initiative in which we, the residents of Deadwood, will set up villages around these new resources. These outpost villages will serve to guarantee that we have control over some of these new hot-spots. We all know that control of these resources will provide a marked increase in Deadwood's power.
I am willing to lead the way in this initiative, but I need help. I will need man power and tools. If you wish to see Deadwood rise to be the leading nation in what will someday be more than a conglomeration of small villages I suggest that you think about supporting this.
Regards,
Daren Revan

Probably by the end of this week I will have some suggestions up and some idea about expanding, and I whole-heartedly agree with what you said. Where are these cliffs located?
BTW, I know someone was making maps for us for awhile. If someone can post a current map with all the new areas, that would be wonderful. I would like for us to peaceably expand and incorporate a few areas to put a buffer between us and some of our less-friendly neighbors.

The Northern Crags are a short journey directly West of the Feral Hills.

I'm going to go take a look at the cliffs now that I dealt with DasGeorge and Timmah seems out for the count. I just want to look around but, as far as I'm concerned, they are ours. I will see if I can put up a sign there to that matter. Great flint-mining area, I'm sure.

well two things about claiming them, is that there are already two new villages there, the drauker one on the far side ive been helping with and the one near the center is the new town for people from SA.
we should still be able to set up a quarrying station tho closer to our side of the cliffs.

Sounds like an idea. Looks like it will be at least another day before I can make it over there. I've been putting out fires all around town and haven't had a chance to get out.
Since the villages there are friendly, I'm sure we can work something out so we don't step on each other's toes.

The biggest issue I see is getting the tools necessary to harvest the resources there. I have been wandering a while now and I have yet to see a stag.

I saw one in Crimson Unity recently, but stupidly didn't go for it. I didn't know about the antler thing at the time.
As for claiming any of it - I just saw the map of the Crags. No reason to worry about claiming anything there. We'll just mine the area nearest us. There's plenty to go around.

yeah, it really shouldn't be a problem, we can make day trips to mine just like we make day trips for lumber.
as for stags, yes they are much rarer than they probably should be. im not sure if this is intentional by isaac to make it really hard till we get metal tools. whatever the case yes stags are hard to find, and run when you hit them, so difficult to kill (tho from what ive heard they dont fight back). and on top of that bone picks break very easily too, so it may be hard to make alot of stone stuff at first. im wondering if maybe we shouldnt just trade for it? the trick would be cornering the market on something specific, which we cant realy do at this point. tho we do have a massive allowance of handaxes and flint.

I have found a suitable spot to set up an outpost town right at the upper edge of the Crags. I will be moving to establish this new town during the next few days. If anyone would like to help, travel North to the wilderness and then directly west until you hit the cliffs. If this construction is in violation of any treaties, pacts or in anyway threatens our allies let me know before I create the totem in the next week or so.

I would check with Southall to make sure we're not violating their area, but it sounds like a good idea. Just remember that most of the towns using the Northern Crags right now are our allies, so we don't want to go running them out of our area.

I'm currently out hunting and have gathered a few antlers now. Last time I checked we did not have too many of these, so I don't want to throw them on the stockpile where they can be stolen. I expect to have about 6 extra antlers to distribute to villagers with the appropriate skill. I will return to Deadwood in the winter, anyone who wants to start mining boulders just let me know and I'll give them to you.
(Of course we might consider just trading them away for boulders. Up to you Chuckie.)

Actually, it sounds like a good idea to distribute them. I'll take one if you run into me! I want to start getting some stone buildings made.
